Freelancers for charities

Blumer Spotlight: Chris Guiton

Posted by Chris on 01/09/2024
We’re excited to introduce Chris Guiton as our spotlighted Blumer for September.

Chris is a freelance copywriter, content writer, and bid writer who has been a member of Blume since 2020. In that period, he successfully completed a whopping 50+ projects for a wide range of Blume clients.

Chris worked for many years in the public and third sectors undertaking senior roles in the policy development, project management and grant programme fields.

Reflecting on why he decided to become a freelance copywriter, Chris said, ‘Most of the jobs I’ve undertaken over the years have involved a significant amount of communications work. Ranging from writing ministerial briefs to public consultation papers and reports to web copy. I’ve always loved the creative aspect of writing, and deciding to go freelance was one of the best career moves I ever made. Being invited to join Blume was a natural extension of this given the experience gained working for a range of charities and cooperatives after taking early retirement from central government.’

Chris loves working with ethical organisations that are trying to make the world a better place. He notes, ‘It’s a real pleasure to look under the bonnet of a charity, understand what makes it tick and help them deliver their charitable goals.’

He has worked for many different Blume clients, including:

BuddyHub. A social enterprise set up to tackle loneliness by facilitating new friendships. Chris supplied a wide range of content for their website, blog and member documentation.

The Joy Club. An online community that provides inspiration for a joyful retirement. Chris supplied a comprehensive set of blog posts on a variety of arts and cultural topics to support their marketing programme.

Youth Cancer Trust. A charity that provides wellbeing holidays and online support for young people living with and beyond cancer. Chris supplied a set of grant bids to help develop a more sustainable income stream.

Summarising the value he delivered for these organisations, Chris said, ‘One of the great things about Blume is the wide variety of work that comes your way. I really enjoy the challenge of understanding a charity’s marketing needs, bringing their story to life, and providing the professional expertise they may not have in-house. It’s also very satisfying to see a grant application approved by a grant-maker. Particularly in the current funding environment!’
